Edimensional VMD setup

  1. Use the latest version of E-Dimensional software and make sure it supports OpenGL.
  2. change laptop resolution to 800x600 at max refresh rate
  3. connect ED laptop to 8-glasses emitter box
  4. turn refresh dial on emitter box quarter to right from min
  5. unplug from AC adapter when in use (keep charged otherwise)
  6. configure laptop to display same view on projector
  7. load ED drivers
  8. Turn 3D on/off by right clicking on ED icon in taskbar, and check if glasses shutter (press button on glasses to activate)
  9. Turn 3D off
  10. Load VMD and protein
  11. Change representation to New Cartoon
  12. Turn 3D ON (glasses should start shutter) (repeat after 15)
  13. Adjust window size (do no maximize)
  14. Translate and zoom in VMD as necessary if image cropped
  15. Drag protein briefly with mouse to initiate rotation at desired speed
  16. Maximize 3D effect in ED software by holding down F7
  17. Change image separation at given shutter speed with F6/Shift+F6
  18. 3D works best when the background color in the VMD is same as the screen color (on which the projector image is projected).
  19. 3D also works better when the room is darker and the intensity of the projected image is high.
